As per a Personnel Department notification issued on September 3, Saikia has been transferred from Karbi Anglong and posted as the District Commissioner of Nagaon. He had assumed charge of Karbi Anglong in December 2025 after serving as Staff Officer to the Chief Secretary, Assam.

Saikia has previously served as Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) in Gossaigaon and Assistant Commissioner in Nagaon. During his tenure in Karbi Anglong, he oversaw preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections, with the district recording nearly 80 per cent voter turnout. He was also involved in preparations for Census 2027 and reviews of key sectors including education, healthcare, road safety, agriculture and heritage conservation.

His transfer comes after the Assam government accepted the voluntary retirement request of Debashish Sharma, who had been serving as the District Commissioner of Nagaon.

Meanwhile, Kriti Chachra has been transferred from the Housing & Urban Affairs Department and posted as the new District Commissioner of Karbi Anglong.

A 2021-batch IAS officer, Chachra has held several positions in Assam's urban administration. She has served as Joint Commissioner of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation and State Mission Director of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). She has also represented the state before the National Green Tribunal in matters related to solid and liquid waste management.

Chachra was earlier posted as Deputy Secretary in the Housing & Urban Affairs Department and was subsequently allowed to officiate as Joint Secretary in the department.

The reshuffle comes as both Nagaon and Karbi Anglong continue to undertake various administrative, infrastructure and development programmes.
