Assam Begins District-Level Training for Census 2027 Functionaries


 

GUWAHATI: A three-day training programme for District and Charge Level Census Functionaries on Census 2027 is currently being conducted simultaneously across 15 districts of Assam.

The training focuses on Phase 1 of Census 2027 — the House Listing and Housing Census (HLO) — and is being conducted by senior officers of the Directorate of Census Operations (DCO), Assam.

Officials participating in the programme include Additional Principal Census Officers, District Census Officers, City Census Officers, Additional and Deputy District Census Officers, Charge Officers, Additional Charge Officers, along with other key district and charge-level census functionaries.

District-level training has commenced in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Kamrup, Cachar and Silchar Municipal Corporation, Dhubri, Goalpara, Dima Hasao, Darrang, Kokrajhar, Morigaon, Baksa, Kamrup (Metro), and Dhemaji.

Census 2027 is set to mark a major transition in India’s census process, as it will be conducted entirely in digital mode for the first time. The census will be carried out in two phases.

Phase 1, which focuses on House Listing and Housing Census operations, will be conducted in Assam from August 17 to September 15, 2026.

Residents of Assam will also have the option of self-enumeration through a dedicated online portal from August 2 to August 16, 2026.

The second phase of the exercise, Population Enumeration (PE), is scheduled to be conducted in February 2027.
