According to the official notice issued on May 16, the board clarified that there is no restriction on students opting for English medium in these two subjects, provided the school has the necessary facilities to teach them in English.

The notification comes as the registration process for Class IX students for the 2026–27 academic session is nearing completion.

ASSEB further stated that students who choose to study General Mathematics and General Science in English medium will not require any changes in their registration process or registration cards. The board clarified that the mention of any medium during Class IX registration will not create complications in the future.

The notice also mentioned that when such students become eligible to appear for the HSLC examination, their subject-wise medium will be recorded separately to ensure proper evaluation of answer scripts.

The directive has been circulated to the Department of School Education, Director of Secondary Education, inspectors of schools, academic officers, and regional offices across Assam for necessary action and information.
