GUWAHATI: Jayanta Mallabaruah of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured victory from the Nalbari constituency in the Assam Assembly elections.
Mallabaruah, who holds key portfolios including Public Health Engineering and Housing & Urban Affairs, polled 1,18,611 votes, defeating Ashok Kumar Sarma of the Indian National Congress (INC), who secured 58,510 votes. The victory margin stood at 60,101 votes.
Among other candidates, Kenedi Pegu of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) received 995 votes. Independent candidates Muktar Hussain, Samsul Haque, and Safar Ali secured 954, 472, and 354 votes respectively.
The result reinforces the BJP’s strong performance in the constituency, with Mallabaruah maintaining a clear lead throughout the counting process.
