GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam has worsened, with 14 more people losing their lives in the last 24 hours, taking the overall death toll to 61.

According to the latest official flood bulletin dated Friday, July 24, Charaideo reported the highest number of fatalities with seven deaths, followed by Sivasagar with six and Jorhat with one.
Floods have affected 11 districts across the state- Golaghat, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Hojai, Nagaon, Biswanath, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Kamrup (Metro), and Karbi Anglong.
A total of 856 villages remain inundated, impacting 7,05,148 people. Floodwaters have also submerged 56,606.777 hectares of crop area.
The state government has opened 363 relief camps and relief distribution centres, where 1,15,205 people are currently taking shelter.
Meanwhile, four rivers continue to flow above the danger level. These include the Dikhou at Sivasagar, Disang at Nanglamuraghat, Dhansiri (South) at Numaligarh, and the Kushiyara at Sribhumi (FFS).
Authorities are continuing rescue and relief operations in the affected districts as floodwaters continue to impact large parts of the state.
