While the immediate focus of the platform is to support people affected by the ongoing floods in Assam, the platform called Helpmonk has been built as a nationwide disaster response platform that can be deployed during floods, earthquakes, cyclones, landslides, cloudbursts, fires and other emergencies across India.

According to the developers of the app, Helpmonk aims to support the entire disaster management cycle, from raising an SOS and locating stranded people to coordinating rescue operations, delivering relief materials, rehabilitation support and long-term recovery.

Through the app, affected individuals can upload their location, photographs, details of their condition and immediate requirements. The platform allows volunteers, relief agencies and donors to directly connect with people in need.

Anuj Kumar Boruah, Co-founder of Firingoti and ideator of Helpmonk, said, “I belong to Sivasagar district in Assam, which is witnessing one of the worst flood situations in recent memory.

Thousands of families have been displaced, and many areas that rarely experienced flooding in the past; including towns like Charaideo, Nazira, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat and Dergaon have been severely affected. Watching this devastation made us realise that while people across India and the world genuinely want to help, there is often no single trusted platform that connects those in need with those willing to assist. Helpmonk was born out of that need.”

The application was developed by Dikshit Rajkhowa, a New Delhi-based technology professional originally from Assam.

Anuj Kumar Boruah further said new features will be rolled out in phases, including volunteer management, shelter mapping, missing persons support, relief inventory tracking, emergency helpline integration, rehabilitation monitoring and disaster analytics.
