GUWAHATI: Assam has secured the second position nationally in ensuring access to medicines listed under the Essential Drugs List (EDL) across public healthcare institutions, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The information was shared by Assam Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education & Research, Ashok Singhal, in a post on X on Tuesday, October 6.
As per the monthly state ranking on the dashboard, Bihar ranked first, followed by Assam. Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh secured the third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
The ranking covers all parameters related to access to EDL medicines across public healthcare institutions.
Among the other northeastern states, Arunachal Pradesh ranked 10th, Meghalaya 14th, Mizoram 23rd, Manipur 27th and Nagaland 28th nationally.
The ranking was issued through the DVDMS portal of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
