Assamese Filmmaker Killed in Road Accident in Majuli


 

GUWAHATI: Assamese filmmaker Nimananda Das, 55, died in a road accident in Majuli in the early hours of Sunday, August 30.

The accident occurred at around 2:30 AM near Kamalabari in Majuli, when the vehicle in which Das was travelling reportedly lost control and plunged into a deep roadside ditch. He died on the spot.

According to actor Rajib Kro, who was part of Das’ film, the filmmaker was returning to Majuli after dropping off members of an under-production film team at Lakhimpur railway station. Das had travelled in his private vehicle, while another person travelled separately.

At the time of his death, Das was working on a biopic on Padma Shri awardee Jadav Payeng, with shooting underway at Bhakat Chapori in Majuli.

Das had previously been associated with journalism before entering the Assamese film industry. He went on to work on short films, documentaries and daily soaps.
