GUWAHATI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday, July 25, called for a nationwide candle march following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, while demanding compensation for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide over the NEET controversy and action against police officers involved in the July 20 crackdown on protesters.

Addressing supporters after Pradhan announced his resignation, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke appealed to people across the country to organise candle marches at 6 PM in their respective states.
"I appeal everyone to hold a candle march in the evening at 6 PM in their states for the NEET students who died by suicide because of Dharmendra Pradhan," Dipke said.
While welcoming Pradhan's resignation, Dipke said the development did not mark the end of the movement's demands.
"Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned. But the families of children who died by suicide must receive compensation of one crore rupees each. And action must be taken against the police officers who acted against protesters on July 20," he said.
Earlier in the day, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that he was stepping down and had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Pradhan's resignation had been the principal demand of protesters gathered at the CJP-led agitation at Delhi's Jantar Mantar over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.
