Clean Sweep in Kamrup (Metro) as BJP Wins Four, Ally AGP Takes One Seat


 

GUWAHATI: The BJP and its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) have swept all five constituencies in Kamrup (Metro) distric as counting trends showed decisive leads across the board.

The BJP secured four seats, while the AGP won one, with opposition parties including the Congress and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) finishing well behind in all constituencies.

In Dispur, BJP candidate Pradyut Bordoloi led with 103,337 votes, maintaining a strong lead over Congress candidate Mira Borthakur Goswami, who polled 53,670 votes. The margin stood at 49,667 votes.

New Guwahati remained firmly with the BJP, where Diplu Ranjan Sarmah secured 89,636 votes, defeating his nearest rival Congress candidate Santanu Bora who secured 41,968 votes, with a winning margin of 47,668.

In Jalukbari, Himanta Biswa Sarma registered a comfortable victory margin, securing 127,151 votes. Congress candidate Bidisha Neog trailed with 37,717 votes, resulting in a margin of 89,434 votes.

Guwahati Central also went in favour of the BJP, with Vijay Kumar Gupta leading at 99,920 votes, while Assam Jatiya Parishad candidate Kunki Chowdhury finished second with 38,825 votes, a difference of 61,095 votes.

The AGP secured Dimoria, where Tapan Das polled 116,058 votes. He defeated Congress candidate Kishor Kumar Baruah, who secured 50,673 votes, with a winning margin of 65,385 votes.

The results underline a clear sweep for the BJP-led alliance across the state capital region, with opposition parties failing to gain ground in any of the five constituencies.
