GUWAHATI: A man was hospitalised in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district on Monday, May 4, after allegedly attempting to slit his throat outside his residence, according to reports, amid distress linked to circulating rumours regarding actor-politician Vijay’s party performance in the ongoing Assembly election trends.
The man, identified as K. Mahendran and a supporter of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, was rescued by locals following the incident and taken to the Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital, where he is undergoing intensive treatment, according to reports.
Police sources said preliminary information suggests that Mahendran was distressed over unverified social media claims related to the party’s electoral performance. The exact circumstances are under verification, and a detailed inquiry is underway. Authorities have urged the public to avoid circulating or believing unconfirmed information.
The incident comes as counting trends continue in Tamil Nadu, where TVK is contesting its first Assembly election under actor-politician Vijay and has drawn significant public attention.
Vijay, who launched TVK in 2024, has maintained that the party will contest independently and has ruled out alliances with other political formations. He has described elections as a “democratic battle” while emphasising the party’s independent political stance.
Further details are awaited following medical updates and the ongoing investigation.
