GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed District Commissioners (DCs) to increase their field presence and work swiftly towards addressing public grievances, with a focus on people-centric administration.

The direction came after the two-day District Commissioners’ Conference in Jorhat, which concluded on September 15 following over 27 hours of deliberations involving ministers, DCs and senior officers from 15 departments.
“Each DC will now convene meetings with line departments to ensure every directive reaches field officers without delay and translates into action,” CM Sarma wrote on X.
Sarma also called for a shift away from what he described as a “colonial administrative mindset” among the state’s district administration.
“Our DCs must shed the vestiges of a colonial administrative mindset and bring the discipline, efficiency and professionalism of the private sector to public service. Technology and AI must become integral to everyday governance,” he wrote.
The Chief Minister also said that several pending files were cleared during the conference to ensure that governance continues without delays.
“Alongside these discussions, I also cleared over 85 files and wrote over 34 Notes and letters to dignitaries. The day-to-day work of governance must keep pace with the reforms we pursue,” Sarma wrote.
The conference focused on improving coordination between district administrations and line departments and ensuring that government directives are translated into timely action at the field level.
