GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya on Thursday, August 7, while warning that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to continue across the region till August 12.

According to the latest IMD forecast, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected over Assam and Meghalaya on August 7, with heavy rainfall at isolated places likely during the day.
While rainfall activity is expected to reduce to isolated to scattered showers from August 8 to 11, another spell of fairly widespread to widespread rainfall and isolated heavy rain has been forecast for August 12.
The weather office has also predicted isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning over Assam and Meghalaya throughout the August 7-12 period.
The IMD has advised residents to closely monitor weather updates and remain prepared to move to safer places if conditions worsen. People have been urged not to take shelter under trees during thunderstorms, unplug electrical and electronic appliances during lightning, avoid water bodies, and stay away from objects that conduct electricity.
The department has further advised authorities to regulate tourism and recreational activities, onshore and offshore operations, and helicopter services in areas affected by adverse weather.
Across the Northeast, Arunachal Pradesh is likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from August 7 to 12, with isolated heavy rainfall expected during August 7–8 and August 11–12.
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also expected to witness fairly widespread to widespread rainfall and isolated thunderstorms with lightning from August 7 to 12, with isolated heavy rainfall likely during the same period.
