The initiative was organised under the Financial Inclusion Campaign led by the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Reserve Bank of India (RBI), State Bank of India (SBI) and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
The campaign focused on expanding access to government-backed financial schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY).
The initiative also aimed to promote financial literacy, encourage savings and insurance coverage, and improve access to institutional credit among rural households, with a focus on women's financial independence and rural entrepreneurship.
According to the information shared by the organisers, more than 80% of Assam's eligible population has been covered under PMJDY, while women account for over 55% of the state's bank account holders.
The event was attended by SBI Deputy General Manager Amit Ranjan, SBI Chief General Manager Atul Rathi, RBI Regional Director Sushmita Phukan, Lead District Manager Manoj Gogoi, NABARD Assistant General Manager Kirti Prabha and Malaybari Gaon Panchayat President Barnali Hazarika Das.
The campaign sought to strengthen financial inclusion by connecting rural residents with banking services, social security schemes and credit facilities to support livelihoods and small-scale enterprises.
