GUWHATAI: A fresh road accident on National Highway-27 near Khetri in Sonapur has once again raised concerns over the safety of the highway stretch, with locals claiming that several accidents have been reported in the area in recent days.

On Friday, September 4, a four-wheeler collided with a motorcycle at Khaloibari village under Dimoria constituency in Kamrup Metropolitan district, leaving the two-wheeler rider seriously injured.
According to the media reports, the passenger car, reportedly hit the motorcycle. The rider, identified as Indramohan Goswami, sustained serious injuries in the collision and was rushed to a medical facility in critical condition.
Khetri traffic police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and initiated necessary action.
The latest accident comes days after a major crash on the same stretch of NH-27 on August 30, in which at least seven people were killed, including four who died on the spot. The earlier accident was reportedly linked to a large pothole on the highway, which caused a commercial passenger vehicle to lose control, cross the divider and collide with an oncoming truck.
Following the fatal crash, local residents blocked the highway, demanding immediate action over the alleged poor maintenance of the stretch and negligence by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
However, with another accident reported on Friday, concerns over the condition of the highway remain. Despite assurances of repairs, locals claim that the stretch has continued to witness frequent mishaps, with three to four accidents allegedly occurring every day over the past week.
Residents have now renewed their demand for urgent repairs and sustained monitoring of the accident-prone stretch to prevent further loss of life.
