Five Killed, Several Injured in Road Accident in Guwahati’s Khetri


 

GUWAHATI: At least five people, including the driver of a passenger vehicle, were killed and several others injured after the vehicle collided head-on with a truck on the Guwahati-Sonapur highway near Khetri on Sunday evening.

The accident occurred in the Nalgedra area near Khetri on National Highway 27.

According to preliminary information, the passenger vehicle was travelling towards Guwahati from the Nagaon side when one of its tyres reportedly burst after hitting a large pothole, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The vehicle then apparently crossed the road divider and collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction.

The collision caused extensive damage to the vehicle and left several passengers injured.

The injured were rescued from the vehicle and shifted to GMCH for treatment.

Personnel from Khetri Police Station reached the accident site and assisted in the rescue operation.

The identities of those killed and injured were not immediately available.
