GUWAHATI: The State Cabinet has approved the establishment of a Proton Beam Therapy Centre in Guwahati under the Assam State Secondary Healthcare Initiative for Service Delivery Transformation (ASSIST) Project.

The centre will be established through the Assam Health Infrastructure Development & Management Society (AHIDMS) at an estimated cost of ₹600 crore.
The proposed facility is expected to strengthen Assam’s advanced cancer treatment infrastructure and provide access to proton beam therapy, a specialised form of radiation treatment.
The project is part of the state government’s efforts to expand and modernise healthcare infrastructure and improve access to advanced medical services within Assam.
