GUWAHATI: Four youths lost their lives and another sustained critical injuries after two motorcycles collided head-on at Palashbari on the outskirts of Guwahati in the early hours of Sunday, May 24.

The accident occurred at around 2 am at Bazarapara on the Mirza–Palashbari road under the jurisdiction of the Palashbari Police Station.
According to reports, one motorcycle carrying two riders was travelling from one direction while another bike with three youths onboard was approaching from the opposite side. Amid heavy rainfall, the two motorcycles reportedly crashed into each other at high speed.
The collision was severe, throwing all five riders onto the road.
Police personnel rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and shifted the injured youths to a hospital. However, three of them were declared dead on arrival by doctors.
The remaining two injured youths were later referred to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced treatment. One of them succumbed to injuries during treatment, taking the death toll to four.
The deceased have been identified as Jyoti Kalita from Majirgaon Baruapara, Nikhil Das of Rongamati Dokanipara and Chandan Jana, a resident of West Bengal.
The injured youths have been identified as Dipankar Kalita and Arnav Barman. Barman later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment while Kalita remains under treatment at GMCH.
Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause behind the fatal accident.
