GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday, September 22, dismissed the CBI’s plea challenging the discharge of Congress leader Ripun Bora in the 2000 Daniel Topno murder case.

"I had repeatedly said that this was a political conspiracy case, and one day the truth would be proven. I have deep faith in the judiciary, and the judiciary would certainly give me justice one day. I kept saying this repeatedly, and today that statement has been proven,” Ripun Bora said after the High Court dismissed the CBI plea.
The case relates to the murder of tea community leader Daniel Topno in Assam’s Gohpur on September 27, 2000.
The case was initially investigated by Assam Police and later by the CID. The CBI subsequently took up the investigation and named Ripun Bora as an accused in the case.
On February 10, 2014, the Kamrup District and Sessions Court discharged Bora, stating that there was not sufficient evidence to frame charges against him.
The CBI challenged the 2014 order before the Gauhati High Court through a revision petition filed on May 29, 2014. The matter remained pending for years before the latest development.
“First, I got justice in the District & Sessions Court, where they declared me innocent. After that, the CBI challenged it again and went to the High Court. In the High Court, the case went on for nearly 12 years, and finally, after examining all aspects, the High Court dismissed the CBI's petition today,” Ripun Bora said while speaking to the media.
“Today I got justice in court,” Ripun Bora added.
