GUWAHATI: A substantial quantity of gold was recovered during a Railway Police operation at New Bongaigaon Railway Station in Assam on Wednesday, April 22, leading to the detention of one individual.

The person taken into custody has been identified as Amar Ali. Officials said that around 582 grams of gold was seized from his possession during the raid.
Speaking to GPlus, an official from the Bongaigaon Police Station said that the consignment was being transported from Barpeta to Bihar on board the down North East Express.
Acting on specific inputs, Railway Police intercepted the train and apprehended the suspect, marking a major crackdown against smuggling activities.
The seized gold is estimated to be worth over ₹1 crore in the current market value. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to trace the origin of the gold and examine possible links to a wider smuggling network.
