GST Department Sensitises Guwahati Motor Parts’ Dealers on Compliance, Prevention of Tax Evasion


 

GUWAHATI: The State GST Department held an awareness meeting with representatives of the motor parts and accessories trade sector in Guwahati to promote GST compliance and strengthen efforts to curb tax evasion.

The meeting was conducted on Wednesday, June 3, at Kar Bhawan in Dispur and was chaired by Jitu Doley, Commissioner of Taxes, Assam. Senior officials of the State GST Department and members of the motor parts and accessories trade sector attended the programme.

According to an official press statement, detailed discussions were held on instances of tax evasion and various compliance-related issues observed within the motor parts and accessories trade sector.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner of Taxes underscored the importance of voluntary compliance with GST provisions and highlighted the crucial role played by traders in fostering a transparent and accountable tax system.

He urged members of the motor parts and accessories trading community to fully cooperate with the State GST Department and strictly adhere to GST laws. The Commissioner also called upon dealers to assist the Department in identifying taxpayers involved in tax evasion, noting that such practices adversely impact government revenue and creates an uneven playing field for compliant businesses.

Representatives of the Motor Parts and Accessories Dealers Association assured the Department of their full support and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting tax compliance across the sector. 

“They agreed to support the initiatives of the State GST Department and work collectively towards curbing tax evasion in the sector,” the statement added.
