The decision was taken at the Assam Cabinet meeting held on Sunday, October 4.

Under Phase II, the proposed Brahmaputra Riverfront Development Project will cover the stretch from Kamakhya Bazar to the foothills of the Nilachal Hills.

The Brahmaputra Riverfront Development Project is being taken up as part of the Area Based Development (ABD) proposal of Guwahati Smart City. The existing project covers an approximately 1.2-km stretch from the New DC Bungalow to Kachari Ghat.

The project aims to improve access to the riverfront, develop supporting infrastructure, connect fragmented spaces along the riverfront and protect the riverbed and riverbank.

It also envisages creating a continuous waterfront along the Brahmaputra that remains accessible to citizens of Guwahati throughout the year.
