GUWAHATI: The Assam Legislative Assembly will introduce Hindi as an additional language for its proceedings from July 6, Assembly Speaker Ranjit Kumar Das announced on Sunday, July 5.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Das said the decision was taken by the General Purpose Committee (GPC) of the Assembly.
At present, the Assembly conducts its proceedings in Assamese, English and Bodo. With the latest decision, Hindi will be added as an additional language for legislative business.
Explaining the move, the Speaker said the decision was taken to facilitate legislative proceedings by providing members with an additional language option during House sessions.
