GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet has approved the launch of a unified Dial-112 Emergency Response System, enabling citizens to access police, fire, health and disaster management services through a single emergency number.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Sunday, July 5, at Lok Sewa Bhawan under the chairmanship of CM Sarma.
As part of the initiative, 200 specially equipped vehicles will be deployed across the state as 24×7 mobile police stationsto provide quicker emergency response.
The revamped system will enable people to dial 112 during emergencies such as law and order situations, fire incidents, road accidents and other disasters, ensuring a coordinated response through a single platform.
To support the project, the government will establish a state-of-the-art Emergency Response Centre (ERC) at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon. The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)will implement the project, officially named the Assam Police Emergency Management System (APEMS).
To facilitate the modernisation and rollout of the new system, the Cabinet also approved a provision of ₹97.90 crore.
