Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra recorded a season-best throw of 85.83 metres in his second attempt. The effort briefly put him in the lead before Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage produced a sensational 89.75-metre throw in his second attempt to clinch the gold medal.
Competing in his second Commonwealth Games, Neeraj had to settle for silver in challenging weather conditions. The 28-year-old had won the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.
Yashvir Singh delivered the performance of his career in his Commonwealth Games debut, producing a personal best throw of 85.41 metres with his sixth and final attempt to secure the bronze medal. His previous personal best was 83.72 metres.
The 24-year-old's final throw ensured India finished with two athletes on the podium in the event.
India's third competitor, Rohit Yadav, finished seventh.
Pathirage's gold-winning effort continued the Sri Lankan athlete's impressive run in the event, with his 89.75-metre throw proving unmatched for the remainder of the competition.
