GUWAHATI: Two migrant workers from Chhattisgarh were killed after terrorists opened fire at a brick kiln in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Friday evening. One worker died at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Saturday, August 1.

The victims, identified as Deepak and Bhupender, were working at a brick kiln in Kellam village when terrorists targeted them before fleeing the area. Deepak died on the spot, while Bhupender, who sustained critical bullet injuries, was first taken to a local hospital and later shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, where he died during treatment.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a major search operation to trace the attackers.
The incident marks the second targeted terror attack in the Kashmir Valley within the past 10 days. Last week, a police officer was targeted in Anantnag, following which security agencies launched an extensive crackdown across Kashmir, detaining more than 3,000 suspects.
The attack comes amid the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, for which security has been significantly strengthened with the deployment of 670 additional companies of paramilitary personnel alongside existing security arrangements.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly act, and directed security forces to intensify operations against those responsible. Leaders across political parties also condemned the killings and expressed condolences to the victims' families.
