GUWAHATI: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in coordination with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), intercepted a vessel carrying narcotic substances worth over ₹3,000 crore in the Arabian Sea, west of Lakshadweep.

The joint operation led to the seizure of approximately 526 kg of high-grade narcotic substances, including heroin and methamphetamine, and the apprehension of five Pakistani nationals who were operating the vessel.
The operation was carried out on September 25, an official statement said Wednesday, September 30.
Acting on intelligence, ICG assets undertook sea-air surveillance and tracking of the suspected vessel before launching a coordinated pursuit. The operation culminated in the interception and boarding of a suspicious Iranian dhow in the high seas.
“The intercepted dhow, apprehended crew and seized contraband were subsequently escorted under armed security to Mumbai for joint interrogation and further investigation, followed by comprehensive multi-agency legal proceedings,” the statement read.
The Indian Coast Guard said the operation was part of its efforts to prevent the smuggling of narcotic substances through India’s maritime zones.
