GUWAHATI: The assistant manager of Lalacherra Tea Estate, Faiz Amir, has been arrested after a woman worker accused him of sexual assault at his bungalow, police said.

Additional SP (Crime) Trinayan Bhuyan said police received a complaint against the manager. The woman had gone to his bungalow to provide assistance. She alleged that she was forced but managed to escape.
Police registered a case under the relevant sections of law. The accused, who hails from Samastipur district in Bihar, was apprehended and is now in judicial custody.
Bhuyan said the medical examination has been conducted and the investigation is underway.
The woman was allegedly called to the bungalow on the pretext of cleaning work. Her screams alerted locals, who rushed in, rescued her, caught the accused and handed him over to police. Police have not confirmed this account.
