GUWAHATI: India struck gold twice in compound archery at the Asian Games on Wednesday, September 30, with the women’s team defeating China before Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav edged out South Korea in a dramatic shoot-off to secure India’s quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi defeated China 238-234 in the women’s compound team final to claim gold.
India also equalled South Korea’s world record score of 157 in the mixed team event. South Korea had achieved the same total at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
In the mixed team final, Chikitha and Sahil Jadhav held their nerve against South Korea. The Indian pair led 80-78 at the halfway stage, but Korea fought back to level the contest at 157-157 after four series, forcing a shoot-off.
In the deciding shoot-off, both Chikitha and Sahil hit the 10, while South Korea’s final arrow landed in the nine, handing India the gold medal.
The victory also secured a quota place for India at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where the compound mixed team event will make its Olympic debut.
The win marked India’s seventh gold medal at the ongoing Asian Games and also saw the country retain its compound mixed team title from the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games.
