GUWAHATI: Indian shooter Neeru Dhanda won gold in the women’s individual trap event at the 2026 Asian Games on Tuesday, September 29, becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual Asian Games medal in trap or skeet shooting.

The 26-year-old Haryana shooter scored 28 in the eight-shooter final to claim the gold medal. She also broke the previous Asian Games record of 24. China’s Yunong Sun finished second with 26 points.
Dhanda’s gold came just hours after she helped India win silver in the women’s trap team event alongside Manisha Keer and Aashima Ahlawat.
Her victory is India’s fifth gold medal at the ongoing Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
Dhanda had already shown strong form in the qualification round, hitting 48 of 50 targets to finish joint top. She scored 24 in each of the first two rounds, missing only two targets and sharing the lead with Qatar’s Bassil Ray.
Dhanda, Keer and Ahlawat had earlier combined for 130 points to finish joint second with Qatar and Kuwait in the women’s team event, while China topped the standings with 136 points.
The individual gold adds to a breakthrough year for Dhanda. In July, she became the first Indian woman to win a World Cup gold in the trap event at the Shotgun World Cup in Italy.
