GUWAHATI: India won gold in the mixed trap team event at the 2026 Asian Games on Wednesday, September 30, with Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Chenai defeating top-seeded Qatar in the final to add another shooting gold to India’s medal tally. The pair also set an Asian record in the final, securing India’s first-ever Asian Games gold in the mixed trap team event.

Neeru and Kynan entered the four-team medal round after finishing fourth in qualification with a score of 136. China, Qatar and Iran finished ahead of them in the qualification stage.
Iran were eliminated first in the medal rounds, followed by China, who took bronze. This set up the gold-medal contest between India and Qatar.
The Indian pair held their nerve in difficult shooting conditions and eventually overcame Qatar to win the gold.
The gold marked a remarkable Games for Neeru, who completed a treble of medals in Aichi-Nagoya. She had earlier won individual women’s trap gold and a team silver alongside Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer.
Neeru had also become the first Indian woman to win an individual Asian Games gold in trap. With her mixed team gold, she now has medals across the individual, team and mixed team formats at the Games.
For Kynan, the victory adds a mixed team gold to the two medals he won at the 2022 Asian Games- men’s team trap gold and men’s individual trap bronze.
NRAI President Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo hailed the result as a major achievement for India’s trap shooters, while Secretary General Pawan Kumar Singh praised the pair’s composure after their fourth-place finish in qualification.
