GUWAHATI: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday, September 4, successfully launched the GSLV-F17 carrying EOS-05, India’s first imaging satellite designed to operate from geosynchronous orbit.

The 51.7-metre-tall GSLV-F17 lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 2:55 AM and placed the approximately 2,367-kg EOS-05 into its intended sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit around 18 minutes later.
EOS-05 is designed to provide advanced Earth-imaging capabilities, supporting applications including agriculture, disaster management, water resources and environmental monitoring.
The successful mission marks the 19th flight of India’s GSLV and a significant milestone in the country’s growing Earth-observation and space capabilities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju congratulated ISRO and its scientists on the achievement. Modi described the launch as a reflection of India’s growing capabilities in the space sector.
