Addressing reporters, DCP (Central) Shambhavi Mishra said the operation led to the arrest of the alleged kingpin, Alok Jain, who had been running an IPL and cricket betting network for a considerable period. Police said Jain already has three charge-sheeted cases registered against him.
The other arrested individuals have been identified as Sunil Bhaskar and Basant Kumar from Rajasthan; Satya Ram and Lal Saheb Mahto from Bihar; and Kamal Upadhyay, Bikash Gupta and Amit Kumar Jha from Guwahati.
“We were able to catch them red-handed during live gambling operations yesterday,” Mishra said.
During the raid, police recovered at least 16 mobile phones, two laptops, two monitors and tablets allegedly used for betting activities.
Officials also seized multiple bank account details, 15 ATM cards, gambling record books, jewellery, documents related to 26 land parcels, and a pistol along with 40 rounds of live ammunition.
Police further recovered cash exceeding ₹1 crore from the accused.
According to investigators, Jain had no known legitimate source of income or business. “This is what we have learnt during the course of the investigation,” the DCP said.
