GUWAHATI: At least 626 people have died in devastating flash floods in the Nepal-Tibet border region, according to Nepal Police, while Chinese state media reported seven deaths on the Tibetan side.

Nearly 2,500 stranded people, including 163 foreign nationals, have been evacuated as rescue and relief operations continued for a fourth day.
Nepal’s meteorology department has warned of fresh rainfall and thunderstorms in the affected areas, raising concerns that worsening weather could hamper ongoing rescue and relief operations.
Meanwhile, Chinese authorities said the threat posed by a lake formed after a glacier collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border has eased. Satellite images showed water gradually flowing out of the lake, reducing its level.
The Nepal Army said 2,465 people, including 163 foreign nationals, have been evacuated so far. Those rescued included 113 Indians, 26 Chinese, 15 South Koreans, four Germans, two Italians, two Americans and one Omani national.
Nepal Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle said the country could require $4 billion to $5 billion for reconstruction following the devastating floods.
Meanwhile, more than ₹229.5 crore has been collected for the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
