GUWAHATI: A woman has died under mysterious circumstances in Guwahati, prompting a police investigation and the detention of her husband over suspected poisoning, officials confirmed on Monday, April 27.

The deceased, identified as Shruti Rai, had married Rupak Sen earlier this year on January 28 in the Bishnupur locality near Noonmati. Speaking to GPlus, an official from Odalbakra Police Outpost said that the couple had a love marriage, with Sen having previously been divorced.
The case has raised serious concerns after allegations surfaced that Rai may have been poisoned by her husband. Acting on these suspicions, law enforcement authorities took Sen into custody for questioning.
However, Sen has denied any wrongdoing, stating that his wife had been unwell for several days before her death. He told investigators that Rai was admitted to a hospital on Sunday, April 26, and passed away while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.
Police officials said an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death. Further details are awaited.
