For the April-September 2026 period, total freight loading stood at 6.226 MT, compared to 5.557 MT in the same period of the previous financial year, an increase of 12 percent.

The railway said the September rise was driven by higher loading of several commodities compared to September 2025. Foodgrain loading went up by 610 percent to 0.071 MT, while fruits, vegetables and timber together rose by over 157 percent. Cement and fertilizer loading increased by 295 percent and 200 percent respectively. It should be noted that some of these percentage increases are from relatively small base volumes.

Over the April-September 2026 period, cement loading rose by 181 percent and dolomite loading by 36.7 percent, according to NFR. Coal and container traffic also saw increases compared to the same period last year. In September alone, dolomite loading rose by 52 percent and container traffic by 17.6 percent, NFR said. Two other segments recorded growth of 8.2 percent and 9.6 percent.

NFR said it is working to improve coordination with customers and ensure smooth movement of goods, and that it aims to expand its freight base and meet the region's changing logistics needs.
