In a special appeal issued on Wednesday, October 14, the committee said the decision was taken after considering the opinions, sentiments and reactions of the people of Assam, Zubeen Garg’s family, and his numerous admirers and well-wishers.

“Zubeen belongs to the people, Zubeen belongs to Assam,” the committee stated in its appeal.

The committee said its primary objective remains securing justice for Zubeen Garg and asserted that it would continue its efforts with dedication and determination.

“For us, justice for Zubeen da is not merely a demand; it is our moral responsibility and a collective commitment,” the statement read.

The organisers further declared that they would not hold any such celebratory programmes in the future until Zubeen Garg receives justice. They said that prioritising the demand for justice was the highest expression of genuine respect for the singer.

The committee also appealed to the people of Assam, various organisations, supporters and the media to understand and cooperate with its decision.

“We will move forward together with determination in the journey towards securing justice for Zubeen da. This is our commitment,” the statement added.

The festival was scheduled to take place from November 18 to 20. The committee was established in 2015 and is headquartered at Maa Studio on Apurba Singha Path in Rajgarh, Guwahati.
