NTPC, Ri-Bhoi Administration Sign MoA For STEM Labs in 27 Government Schools


 

NTPC Limited has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the District Administration of Ri-Bhoi district for the establishment of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) laboratories in 27 government schools under its strategic CSR initiative in North East India.

The MoA was formalised on April 30, 2026, marking a key step towards strengthening educational infrastructure and promoting experiential, hands-on learning in government schools across the district. Under the initiative, NTPC will provide financial assistance of up to ₹1.48 crore for setting up fully equipped STEM laboratories.


 

The agreement signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi district Abhilash Baranwal, IAS, and Amit Kr Asthana, Head of HR, NTPC Bongaigaon. The event also saw the presence of district officials including Sailand G Momin, Research Associate, Planning Branch, Ri-Bhoi, along with NTPC representatives Madhurjya Singha Lahkar, DGM (HR–Corporate Communication), and Smriti Das, Executive (CSR, LA and R&R), NTPC Bongaigaon, at the District Administration office.


 

As per the agreement, the District Administration will serve as the implementing agency responsible for execution, procurement, quality assurance, and coordination with beneficiary schools. NTPC, as the funding agency, will monitor implementation through periodic reviews, site inspections, and impact assessments.

The STEM laboratories will be established within existing school infrastructure and equipped with modern learning tools including robotics kits, electronics modules, renewable energy models, and digital learning aids. The project also includes structured teacher training programmes and baseline-to-endline assessments to measure learning outcomes and overall impact.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at enhancing scientific temperament, creativity, and problem-solving skills among students, while strengthening access to quality STEM education in underserved areas of the district.

The collaboration aligns with national priorities of promoting STEM education and building future-ready skills, particularly in rural and remote regions. It is expected to benefit a large number of students by providing practical exposure to scientific concepts and fostering innovation at the grassroots level.

Through this partnership, NTPC and the District Administration aim to create a sustainable ecosystem for quality education and capacity building in Ri-Bhoi district.
