GUWAHATI: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) Regional Centre, Guwahati, has offered karate champion Janmoni Konwar a place at the SAI Training Centre (STC) in Shillong, where she will receive training and other support under the SAI STC scheme.

According to a media statement issued by SAI Guwahati, Janmoni has expressed her willingness to join the STC Shillong and avail herself of the training facilities and assistance available under the scheme.
Through the SAI STC scheme, Janmoni will have access to better training facilities, financial assistance, support for competition-related expenses, insurance coverage and other benefits.
Currently based in Jorhat, Janmoni is expected to join the SAI STC in Shillong shortly. The move is expected to provide her with greater training support and opportunities as she continues to pursue her sporting career.
Janmoni recently drew attention for her performance at the 20th All India Independence Cup Karate Championship held at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, where she won a gold medal in the Ashihara category.
Her achievement came just weeks after devastating floods submerged her home and training ground in Assam. Janmoni and her family were living in a temporary tent when she competed in the championship. Despite the difficult circumstances, she won all three of her bouts, including the final.
Janmoni has also previously achieved success at the national level, winning a gold medal in 2025 and a bronze medal in 2023 at national karate championships.
Having trained in karate from a young age, Janmoni has continued to perform at the national level despite financial and infrastructural challenges.
