The list, associated with Stanford University and academic publishing and research analytics company Elsevier, recognises researchers based on scientific publications, citations and other bibliometric indicators that measure research impact.
The six faculty members recognised this year are Professor Bhupendra Nath Goswami, ANRF PM Professor and Professor of Excellence at Gauhati University; Professor Prodeep Phukan and Professor Ranjit Thakuria from the Department of Chemistry; Professor Bipan Hazarika from the Department of Mathematics; Dr Arun Kumar Dutta from the Department of Botany; and Dr Lachit Dutta from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
The ranking draws on research led by Stanford University Professor John P. A. Ioannidis and his team. It evaluates researchers using indicators such as citation counts, the h-index and the co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, among other measures of research impact.
Congratulating the faculty members, Gauhati University Vice-Chancellor Professor Nani Gopal Mahanta said the recognition was a matter of pride for the institution. He expressed hope that the achievement would encourage researchers to pursue new ideas, innovation and excellence in their academic and research work.
Gauhati University faculty members have also featured in the list in previous years, reflecting the institution’s continued contribution to research and higher education.
The latest recognition further highlights the university’s research contributions and its standing among higher education institutions in Northeast India.
