GUWAHATI: The Gauhati University Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU) election results for 2026-27 were declared in the early hours of Saturday, October 3, after vote counting concluded late on Friday.

The declaration came after days of protests and controversy on the university campus over the election process and the pending results for the General Secretary and Social Service Secretary posts.
As per the official notification issued by Gauhati University, candidates backed by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) secured seven posts, the highest among the student organisations. ABVP-backed candidates won six posts, while Assam Chhatra Parishad (ACP)-backed candidates secured the rest.
Among the 16 posts declared, Arunav Duwarah was elected President, Amartya Duwarah Vice-President, Krishtina Lahon Assistant General Secretary (PG), Vrishank Jyoti Dutta Assistant General Secretary (UG), Neel Kamal Baruah Cultural Secretary and Rainbow Narzary Gymnasium Secretary.
Dubari Saikia, Partha Protim Bharaluwa, Sudeep Seal, Rajib Baro and Mehtab Uddin Ahmed were elected unopposed to their respective posts.
However, the results for the General Secretary and Social Service Secretary posts remain pending. According to the university notification, the two posts will be notified in accordance with the final decision of the Grievances Redressal Cell, PGSU Election 2026-27.
With the declaration of results for 16 posts, the Gauhati University PGSU election process has finally moved forward after days of protests, objections and disputes over the counting process. The results for the General Secretary and Social Service Secretary posts, however, remain pending.
