GUWAHATI: The Assam State Election Commission (SEC) has initiated the process for the upcoming election to the Silchar Municipal Corporation by announcing the schedule for the preparation, revision and publication of the electoral roll.

According to a notification issued on Friday, June 12, the SEC has directed the preparation and publication of the electoral roll under the provisions of the Assam Municipal Corporation Act, 2022 and the Assam Municipal Corporation Election Rules, 2022.
The electoral roll for the Silchar Municipal Corporation will be prepared using the Final Electoral Rolls of the Assembly Constituencies published on January 1, 2026, with January 1, 2026 fixed as the qualifying date.
As per the schedule, preliminary work for preparing the electoral roll will be carried out from June 12 to June 18, followed by preparation and updation of the electoral roll from June 19 to June 28. The draft electoral rolls will be published on June 29.
Claims and objections can be filed from June 29 to July 6. The last date for disposal of claims and objections is July 13, while the final electoral roll will be published on July 15, 2026.
The SEC stated that the preparation and publication of the electoral roll will be conducted in accordance with the prescribed election rules and based on the Assembly Electoral Roll in force as of the qualifying date. The appointment of Registration Officers for the respective wards has
also been notified.
