The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has filed a serious complaint in the Supreme Court regarding the West Bengal elections. According to the demands of the party, The margin of victory in several constituencies in the state, The number of voided or deleted votes is too high. The Supreme Court on Monday advised Mamata Banerjee’s party to file a fresh and separate petition on the matter.
Appearing for the Trinamool Congress, senior lawyer Kalyan Banerjee said the number of deleted votes was higher than the margin of victory in around 31 seats. He also submitted a list to the court to prove this. After hearing his arguments, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Jaimalya Bagchi made it clear that illegal voting could affect the outcome of the election., Hence the party has to file a separate interim application on this issue.
On the other hand, Senior lawyer DS Naidu, who appeared in court on behalf of the Election Commission of India, said that if the party has any complaints about the election process, After that they can file election cases as per rules. He said that the Election Commission is ready to respond to any mistakes or errors mentioned in the application. Banerjee also mentioned the resignation of former Calcutta High Court Chief Justice TS Sivagnam. The Chief Justice said that the court cannot compel any judge to act.
It is noteworthy that, Earlier in a hearing, Chief Justice Surya Kant expressed great joy at the massive participation and voting percentage of people in the country’s elections. He said that in a democracy, common people understand the true power of their vote and abide by law and order, Then violence does not happen in the society.
