GUWAHATI: The Asam Sahitya Sabha will confer its prestigious President’s Special Literary Honour 2025 on five eminent personalities of Assam at a ceremony scheduled to be held on May 16 in Guwahati.

According to a press release issued by Sabha principal secretary Debojit Bora on Sunday, May 10, the award ceremony will take place at 4 pm at the Sangeetacharya Lakshmiram Barua Auditorium of Bhagawati Prasad Baruah Bhawan.
The recipients of this year’s honour include noted researcher, artist and writer Pushpa Gogoi, veteran tea planter and litterateur Devi Prasad Bagrodia, retired professor, critic and senior writer Upendra Barkotoki, senior journalist and litterateur Jitumoni Bora, and senior superintendent of police of Bongaigaon district Nomal Mahatta.
The Sahitya Sabha stated that the honour was introduced to acknowledge individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the growth and enrichment of Assamese language and literature through years of dedicated literary work and intellectual engagement.
The awardees were selected by the Sabha president, with the final list getting approval from the organisation’s executive committee.
The organisation further said the initiative aims not only to recognise literary excellence but also to inspire readers, writers and the wider literary community to continue contributing towards Assamese literature and culture.
