Three Held With Stolen Dogs in Assam’s Naharkatia; Vehicle Seized


 

GUWAHATI: Naharkatia Police in Assam’s Dibrugarh district apprehended three men in the early hours of Tuesday, May 12 for allegedly catching stray dogs from highways to sell them in Nagaland.

According to police, the accused were intercepted at around 3:30 AM during naka checking. A vehicle  without a number plate was seized during the operation, following which police recovered three dogs from inside it.

Speaking to GPlus, an official from Naharkatia Police Station said, “Today at around 03:30 AM one vehicle without number plate was seized by us during naka checking and we found three dogs inside it. During inquiry we came to know that the recovered dogs are strays which were caught by these miscreants from the highway for the purpose of selling them in Nagaland. Three people have been apprehended.”

The apprehended individuals have been identified as Deben Bey (30), a resident of Borgaon in West Karbi Anglong district; Chesong Terang (32) resident of Tarapasa in East Karbi Anglong district and Prince Engti (23), resident of Centre Sarkimitaro in East Karbi Anglong district.

A case (No. 29/26)  has been registered at Naharkatia Police Station under Section 303(2) read with Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Photographs released by the police showed the rescued dogs wrapped in sacks.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
