The robbery occurred at the residence of Golapi Barman, an elderly woman living in the Swarajnagar area of Sarumotoria. According to police, the accused gained entry into the house by posing as lock repair mechanics.

Once inside, they allegedly tied up the elderly woman before fleeing with jewellery, cash and other valuables.

During the incident, the victim's son-in-law, Dipen Kakati, arrived at the house and was later found tied up inside a room, creating the impression that he too had been a victim.

However, the investigation took a turn after police arrested two suspects, identified as Ratan Barman of Barbari and Asif Iftikar Hussain of Baksa. Based on their interrogation, police arrested Pranjit Baishya of Nalbari, who is alleged to have supervised the execution of the robbery.

Further investigation revealed that Dipen Kakati, the victim's son-in-law, had allegedly planned the robbery and coordinated with the other accused to carry out the crime. Police said Kakati had staged the scene to portray himself as another victim and divert suspicion.

All four accused have been arrested, and police said efforts are underway to recover the stolen valuables and determine whether any other individuals were involved in the robbery.
