Ten years of music, artists, reinvention and memories — the story of how a brand became a defining part of Guwahati’s nightlife.
What does it take to keep a nightclub relevant for 10 years?
In a city where entertainment trends change quickly and audiences are always looking for something new, surviving a decade is no small feat. Venues come and go, music preferences change, new formats emerge and what worked yesterday may not necessarily work today. Yet, through all these changes, NYX Lounge and Deck at Hotel Palacio, Khanapara, has managed to remain a familiar name in Guwahati’s nightlife.
When NYX began its journey in 2016, the city’s nightlife was still evolving. The idea of a dedicated nightclub and a late-night party culture was not as established as it is today. NYX Lounge and Deck was among the early venues to push that idea, creating a space where nightlife was not simply about going out for a drink, but about music, performances, DJs, celebrations and the overall experience of being out late with friends.
Ten years later, that experience has gone through several changes, just as the city and its audience have.
The Secret May Be Knowing When To Change
Perhaps the biggest part of NYX’s journey has been its willingness to evolve. Over the years, the venue has changed its look, music, programming and overall experience, responding to what its audience wants while also trying to introduce them to something they may not have experienced before.
That has meant experimenting with new concepts rather than simply following whatever happens to be trending. NYX has consistently tried to bring new formats, new artists and different kinds of entertainment to the city, keeping the experience from becoming predictable.
Ladies’ Night is one example. NYX Lounge and Deck was among the early clubs in Guwahati to introduce the concept and has continued the format for the past 10 years. What could easily have been a short-lived trend has instead become a familiar part of the NYX experience.
The same approach has extended to its music and programming, with DJs, live performers, themed nights and different entertainment formats regularly finding their way onto the calendar.
Making Guwahati Part Of The Circuit
Another important part of the NYX story has been the artists who have walked through its doors. Over the years, the venue has hosted major DJs and performers from across India as well as international acts, bringing names and performances to Guwahati that audiences would traditionally have travelled to larger cities to experience.
That has helped change the expectations of a night out in the city. Guwahati’s audience today is far more exposed to music, artists and entertainment from across the country and the world, and venues have had to keep pace with that appetite.
For NYX, bringing recognised names to Guwahati has been part of that journey, but so has creating a platform where newer artists and different forms of performance can find an audience.
Because One Kind Of Nightlife Isn'T Enough
If there is one thing that has remained consistent about NYX, it is the willingness to experiment with the format itself.
In 2025, the venue introduced NYX Switch, bringing two distinctly different experiences into the same evening. From 6 PM to 10:30 PM, the venue focuses on unplugged and live performances before DJs take over after 10:30 PM.
The idea is simple, but it reflects how the definition of nightlife has changed. Not everyone wants the same kind of evening. One group may want to sit back and enjoy live music over drinks and conversation, while another may be waiting for the DJ to take over and the party to begin.
NYX Switch brings both experiences together, allowing the evening to change its character as the night progresses.
And that perhaps says something about how NYX has approached the last decade — rather than deciding what the audience should want, it has kept experimenting with what the audience might enjoy next.
The Night Is Also About Getting Home Safely
There is, of course, another side to nightlife that is just as important as the music and entertainment: responsible partying.
NYX has consistently promoted its Party Smart, Drink Responsibly message, encouraging guests to make mindful choices while enjoying a night out. The venue also assists guests with cab and transportation arrangements, including helping them pre-book cabs after their night out.
It is a fairly simple initiative, but an important one. The idea is that enjoying nightlife and being responsible do not have to be mutually exclusive. If you are drinking, don't drive; make arrangements to get home safely.
Because ultimately, a good night out should also end with a safe journey home.
A Decade Of Memories
But perhaps the biggest measure of a nightclub's success cannot be found in the number of DJs it has hosted or the number of nights it has organised.
It is found in the people who have spent those nights there.
For someone, NYX may have been the place for a first proper night out with friends. For another, it may be where a birthday was celebrated, a relationship began, an old friendship was rekindled or a random Friday night turned into a story that is still being told years later.
That is what happens when a venue remains around for a decade. It becomes part of the social fabric of a city. The walls may change, the music may change and the people behind the console may change, but the memories continue to accumulate.
And in many ways, that is what NYX has become for Guwahati — not just a nightclub, but one of the places where a generation has celebrated, socialised and made memories.
Ten Years. Ten Days.
Now, NYX Lounge and Deck is getting ready to celebrate that journey.
For its 10th anniversary in September 2026, the venue is marking the milestone with a 10-day-long celebration lineup featuring artists and performers from across India and beyond. The celebration brings together many of the things that have defined NYX over the past decade — music, artists, performances, experiences and, most importantly, the community that has kept coming back.
A decade is a long time in nightlife. Guwahati has changed considerably since 2016, and so has the audience walking through the doors of its clubs. What people expect from a night out today is very different from what they expected a decade ago.
NYX has had to change with them.
That may ultimately be the answer to what goes into making a nightclub last. It takes good music, big artists, a great atmosphere and memorable nights, but it also takes the ability to recognise when the audience is changing and the willingness to change with it.
For 10 years, NYX Lounge and Deck has managed to do that while creating its own identity along the way.
And as the celebrations begin, perhaps the best way to look back at the journey is not simply to ask how NYX survived a decade, but how it managed to remain relevant through one.
Because in nightlife, staying in the game for 10 years is one thing. Making people still want to come back is another.
