GUWAHATI: The first death anniversary of Assamese singer and musician Zubeen Garg will be observed at Zubeen Kshetra in Guwahati on September 19, with a day-long programme featuring Bhagawat Naam, religious activities and a Bhaona performance.

The commemorative programme will begin on September 17 and continue until September 19. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, September 9, Zubeen Garg’s wife Garima Saikia Garg said September 17 will be observed as ‘Zubeen Divas’, with the programme scheduled to conclude by around 5–5:30 pm.
She said visitors will be free to pay tribute to the late singer in their own way, including through prayers, music or other forms of remembrance.
The programme on September 18 will begin around 9 am and feature cultural events throughout the day, continuing until around 6–7 pm. Garima said the organisers intend to avoid extending the events late into the evening.
On September 19, the main commemorative day, Bhagawat Naam and other religious activities will be held throughout the day. A Bhaona performance is scheduled to begin around 6:30 pm and is expected to continue until approximately 9–9:30 pm.
Meanwhile, Assam Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah, along with officials and other members, visited Zubeen Garg’s studio on September 8 and held discussions with the family regarding arrangements for the three-day programme.
According to Garima, the minister has agreed to the logistical requirements discussed during the meeting and assured the family that the necessary arrangements would be made. She also said the state government would extend support for the upcoming commemorative events.
