GUWAHATI: A wild elephant was found dead near a forest reserve in Sonari area of Assam’s Charaideo district, forest officials said on Saturday, July 18.

According to a forest official who visited the spot, a post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of the elephant’s death.
“Locals informed us about the incident over the phone. It appears that the elephant had come out of the Abhaypur Reserve Forest,” the forest official said.
A villager who informed the police about the incident said that another elephant had died in the same locality around three to four years ago.
