GUWAHATI: A serious road accident at Hatigarh Chariali in Guwahati's Geetanagar area late Thursday night, June 4, left a young man critically injured and caused extensive damage to two vehicles, a traffic police official confirmed.

According to preliminary information, a car was reportedly making a U-turn at the busy intersection when it was struck by another vehicle, which was travelling from the Zoo Road side. Witnesses claimed the second vehicle was moving at a high speed when the collision occurred.
The impact of the crash was severe, leaving both vehicles badly damaged. Dipankar Dey, who was travelling in one of the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was rushed for medical treatment.
Several women were also reportedly travelling in the two vehicles at the time of the accident. No other major injuries have been reported so far.
Local residents alleged that the mishap may have been linked to drunk driving, claiming that alcohol consumption by some of the occupants could have played a role in the incident. However, authorities have not yet confirmed these allegations.
Soon after the accident, personnel from the traffic wing of Geetanagar Police Station arrived at the scene and took stock of the situation. Both vehicles were seized, and the occupants, including the young men and women involved, were brought to the police station for questioning.
Further investigation is underway.
